I have been trying for 3 months to get my XP printer working from Windows 7 laptop. I just now followed your concise directions and was finally able to print from my new laptop connected to my desktop via wireless DSL. Network computers and devices are not visible. Great Help. If the wired network, or the wireless network, is Disabled, right-click the connection, and select enable. Worked great for me. I had no problem with my wireless hp printer.

The computer restarts using the default settings. I did have to install the printer on XP first, connecting to a bogus port. I have an HP J5780 hooked to a Win 7 PC.
